Some rough estimates by assuming that we will have an energy use similar to ProEV and making use of some of their published data (more data here):

  • Race pace: 0.75 kWh/km (aerodynamically the Saker will be slipperier, but we only have rear wheel regen. To be safe bump this estimate up by 10% to give us 0.825)
  • Warm up pace: 0.15 kWh/km (which is ~double 0.081 kWh/km which is what ProEV estimate for road driving)

NZSC Series distances:

  • largest event is 9 laps of ~3km circuit = 27 km
  • Plus warmup lap = 30 km
  • Plus victory lap = 33 km.

Energy storage required (kWh):

  • Warmup: 3km x 0.15 = 0.45 (this might be an underestimate)
  • Race laps: 27km x 0.825 = 22.41
  • Victory lap: 3km x 0.15 = 0.45

Required usable battery capacity ~ 23.31 kWh

Being more generous with the warm up, we will double the required energy (e.g. 3km x 0.3): Required usable battery capacity ~ 23.76 kWh
