A123 M1 cell

   Nominal voltage: 3.3 V
   Nominal capacity: 2.3 Ah
   Energy: 7.59 Wh
   Weight: 0.07 kg
   Dimensions: 65.15mm x 25.85 mm diameter

Original A123 cell (M1 specification sheet) - How big, how many and how heavy?

Description Details
Target Nominal Capacity (see Range) 23.76 kWhrs
20C sag Capacity (~97%) 23 kWhrs (although with 14p we will not exceed 9C to provide our max 280A)
Number (75s14p) x 3 = 3150 cells (810V max and 742V nominal)
Weight (excluding interconnects) 2988 x .072 kg = 226.8 kg (with 16p would be 259.2 kg and 27.3 kWhrs)

Likely A123 50V battery (containing 210 cells)

  • 14 parallel x 15 series
  • 49.5 V
  • 32.2 Ah
  • 1.59 kWh
  • 14.7 kg + interconnects, packaging and BMS

We would want 15 of these in series to give us the following total pack:

  • 742 V nominal (810 V peak)
  • 32.2 Ah
  • 23.89 kWh
  • 220.5 kg + interconnects, packaging and BMS (will be under 300kg)
  • Total pack contains 3150 individual M1 cells

Possible smaller A123 50V battery (containing 195 cells)

  • 13 parallel x 15 series
  • 49.5 V
  • 29.9 Ah
  • 1.48 kWh
  • 13.65 kg + interconnects, packaging and BMS

We would want 15 of these in series to give us the following total pack:

  • 742 V nominal
  • 29.9 Ah
  • 22.2 kWh
  • 204.7 kg + interconnects, packaging and BMS (will be well under 300kg)
  • Total pack contains 2925 individual M1 cells

A123 32 Series Automotive Class Lithium Ion

Some information collected from here:

  • AHR32113M1Ultra 32mm x 113mm, capacity 7000mAh (4000mAh, 30C continous, 185g)
  • AHR32157M1HD 32mm x 157mm, capacity 10000mAh

5600mAh to 7000mah (170g?) and 7800mAh to 10000mah (240g?) but of course that takes no account of other differences in their internal formulation and construction.
